Evening in the Universe is a saxophone-led London jazz quintet, fusing synthesized talking drums and hand-built tuned percussion to pump out Afro-spiritual floor thumpers and prog-infused ballads.

Expect tunes from their self-titled EP, released in July 2024, alongside new material from their upcoming EP, set to be recorded in 2025. As the band is actively expanding its sound, look forward to Afro-psychedelic rhythms, space ballads, lo-fi inspired tunes, and intricate improvisations throughout the gig.

All the quintet members share a slice of London's sonic melting pot. The talking drum (Sean Quinn), junk instruments (a bizarre mix of recycled gas canisters and metal detritus courtesy of Saul Eisenberg), and standard drum kit (Filippo Galli) come together to create a living, breathing percussion section that often sounds as vibrant as an undulating marketplace.

This bedrock of imaginative and unique rhythm playing is complemented by the double bass (JJ Stillwell) and saxophone (Tashomi Balfour). Together, these two instrumentalists weave a story for the listener with stunning interplay and purpose—out of the hubbub of movement, narrative and direction emerge.
