About Bruce Mississippi Johnson

Born in the heart of Mississippi, Bruce Johnson’s musical journey began in his grandfather’s church and was shaped by his father’s record collection. Inspired by legends like Al Green, Jackie Wilson, Lou Rawls, and Gil Scott Heron, Bruce discovered his extraordinary bass-baritone voice early on. After serving as a Marine, he pursued his passion for music, performing across Africa and Europe, and quickly gained recognition for his powerful vocals and commanding stage presence.

Bruce’s career skyrocketed in Paris, where he collaborated with jazz luminaries and formed his own band, becoming a leading figure in the funk scene. His victory in a competition judged by Nina Simone led to his first single and solidified his reputation as a rising star. Later, he joined Big Joe Turner’s Blues Caravan, touring the world and honing his craft.
