The Music of... Brian Blade | Ken Hoon ft. Benedict Wood

A dynamic UK jazz ensemble pays heartfelt tribute to the Brian Blade Fellowship Band, capturing the spirit of its rich, cinematic soundscapes and deep emotional storytelling. Blending lush harmonies, soulful improvisation, and a reverent nod to Blade’s distinctive drumming and compositional voice, the group brings a fresh yet faithful take on one of modern jazz’s most revered collectives.

Ken Hoon is a contemporary jazz-fusion ensemble led by award-winning London-based drummer and composer Jack Yardley. Formed in 2019, the band blends ambient soundscapes with intricate rhythms and dynamic improvisation, delivering captivating performances. Their debut single, “Dreamland,” released in September 2021, received critical acclaim and notable radio support. 

Following up, they released “Brother, Merv” in February 2022, offering a glimpse into their debut EP, “Testament.” The ensemble features some of the UK’s top emerging jazz talents, including tenor saxophonists Ben Vize and Jake Burgess, pianist Alex Maydew, double bassist Matt Gedrych, and Yardley on drums. Ken Hoon has performed at renowned venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, The Vortex Jazz Club, and Peggy’s Skylight, solidifying their presence in the UK’s jazz scene.
