Marion & Sobo Band make their London and England debut at Toulouse Lautrec, bringing music from their latest album Gomera and a joyful blend of gypsy jazz, swing and chanson.

Led by French-American vocalist Marion Lenfant-Preus and Polish guitarist Alexander “Sobo” Sobocinski, the quartet moves between the musical worlds of France, Cuba and the Balkans. Songs in French, English, Spanish and Romanes sit alongside original compositions and fresh interpretations of vintage favourites, with Django Reinhardt’s swinging spirit running through the repertoire.

Expect nimble guitar work, expressive violin and adventurous scat singing, anchored by the pulse of double bass. Entirely acoustic and without a drummer, this is a band that can move from a delicate melody to a full-throttle swing with ease.

About the Band

Marion and Sobo met at a jazz jam session in Bonn, Germany, more than 14 years ago. What began as a duo grew into a band with fellow musicians from the Bonn and Cologne jazz scenes, united by a love of swing, travel and musical discovery. They have since performed on several occasions with acclaimed guitarists Joscho Stephan and Lulo Reinhardt.

Raised in a bilingual family in France, Marion brings her love of languages into both her songwriting and performances. Inspired by Ella Fitzgerald and the virtuosity of gypsy jazz guitarists, she treats her voice as an instrument, moving freely between lyrics and scat improvisation.

Sobo grew up in Poland before moving to Germany and studying jazz guitar in the Netherlands. Drawing inspiration from Django Reinhardt, Pat Metheny and his travels around the world, his playing and compositions bring together acoustic jazz, rhythmic drive and a curiosity for sounds beyond borders.
